‘Absent place’
Yoo Young Jin

The spaces exist in this world; seem to clear about ownership, but in reality that is not true. Yet,
people believe that they own the space with physically or psychologically, through each other the
spaces are shared. Conclusively, it is meaningless that individual own spaces. Therefore, I have
started series of ‘Absent place’. This work has started from the question ‘Is it possible to make
spaces where people can recognize with human sense, but not exist in the world?’
I have a place that I visit often. I could find comfort in that place and take a load off my mind. I
considered the place so-called ‘agit’. Then suddenly I questioned ‘Would this place be ‘my own
agit’?’ However, I thought it wouldn’t be. Numerous spaces go through numerous people.
Ultimately, it is possible that in any spaces the others include I can do empathy. Like that, spaces
are owned by many people. However people try to find out their own spaces in public spaces
endlessly. As people want to private spaces between public spaces, thus they do not want interlude
their own spaces.
For that reason I thought how public spaces make to private spaces. I felt that make spaces which
not being in the world, after that. I used the method that the best way of picture. I clicked photos,
which divided by time, and edit them on my computer. I tried to follow the feeling and emotion
which change from the moment to moment. I mixed in on picture about the air and light which can
be felt in the noon and the light which can be seen at night. In my mind the harmony of light, which
cannot be in reality, could make the space, in picture. The spaces, through these progresses, where
people are recognizable, in reality not existent place, ‘none place’.
I think this sires can be part of my whole work. I am interested in the reason of the space existence
and various spatial concepts. Therefore, except current work, ‘humanize spaces’ or installation work
in mind. Through this work, I felt that vestige of paces, which can be recognized visually, are
extremely part of whole. I know there are many potential spaces, where are invisible, emotional
space or special viewpoint of each individual. Accordingly I am planning to recreate the various
special concepts through my work, and finding out not showing off spaces, the other faces of the
